Sharath Madiwala who died on
July 7, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Alok Mohan on
Wednesday said the culprits would be arrested soon.
He was speaking to reporters
after reviewing the law and order situation in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina
Kannada district, which has been witnessing communal disturbances since May 26.
Mr. Mohan said the police with the help of the public were able to restore
peace in the taluk After the stone-pelting incident during Sharath's funeral
procession on Saturday.
There was no Intelligence
failure about stone-pelting as the police thought those leading the procession
would control the mob, Mr. Mohan said. The police concluded that those in the
procession initiated stone-pelting, the ADGP said the investigation was still
on. As of now, 17 people have been arrested since May 26, he said.
Asked about Facebook page
that continues to spread hate messages for over a year even after the police
recommendation to block it, Mr. Mohan said the police would follow up with
Facebook authorities.

not affect public life.
The police are equally
concerned about the rampant sale and use of drugs in the district and would
take every measure to curb the menace, the ADGP said.
BJP will not attend meet.
Meanwhile, the BJP has
decided to stay away from a meeting of elected representatives and religious
leaders called by district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai here on Thursday.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, told
the press that the boycott follows the government's failure to arrest murderers
of Sharath. He alleged that Mr. Rai was responsible for the communal troubles.
Separately, former Congress
leader Harikrishna Bantwal sought shifting of the SP office to Puttur from
Mangaluru for better policing of the district. Since Mangaluru taluk is under
Commissionerate, the SP's office need not be located in the city, he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rai on
Wednesday visited the residence of Sharath and met his fatherTaniyappa
Madiwala.
